Sustainability Report 2015-2016
Danish Energy Efficiency Partners Sdn Bhd (DEEP), which is a partnership between Danish Management Group A/S and Danish Climate Investment Fund, managed by Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU) as partner is now winning nod of approval, and clients, with a very smart and yet simple concept through a one-stop-shop facility for energy efficiency in buildings – also known as ‘retrofitting’ – with the State of Malacca as first client. The State of Malacca entered into a contract with DEEP in June 2015 under the program Melaka Building Energy Efficiency, with the objective to save energy in 9 state-owned buildings by installing and financing energy efficient technologies and services, becoming the first showcase in the region for the new Danish solution. The program has been structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The 9 state-owned buildings have been split into 2 phases; Phase 1 containing 3 buildings and Phase 2 a further 6. The project’s phase 1 has been completed and the savings are in place. As for Phase 2, the works are beginning this month (January 2017) and it is expected to be completed by year-end. In total, the 9 buildings are expected to reduce energy consumption by 7.5 Million kWh/year - saving Melaka about RM 3.5 Million/year in energy costs. Further, the project has improved the indoor comfort levels of the buildings involved and socio-economically, has created a job-market for the local contractors to drive the energy efficiency agenda into the private sector.
Phase 1 of Melaka’s State-owned Building Energy Efficiency was launched on the 16th of January 2017 by YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ir. Haji Idris bin Haji Haron, the Chief Minister of Melaka and co-officiated by H.E. Mr Nicolai Ruge, the Danish Ambassador to Malaysia. The event was attended by officials and dignitaries from the Malaysian energy and environment community.
CLEAN is a world-leading cleantech cluster with an international focus that is based in Denmark. Its mission is to accelerate the green and sustainable transition while realising growth for the Danish cleantech sector. Through a corporation with CLEAN, DEEP successfully signed two Memorandum of Understanding with commercial building owners in The Philippines in March 2017.
DEEP and Green Growth Asia entered into a corporation through an MoU in 2017. Through the corporation, GGA is responsible to “open doors” to provinces and states in the region, to identify potential projects for DEEP. Through this corporation, the Songkhla province, which is apart of the IMT - Growth Triangle, came on-board.
The most anticipated and prestigious event with more than 600 participants for 2016 Green Awards gala dinner held on 12 August 2016 at Swiss Garden & Residences Malacca which graced by the Chief Minister of Malacca, YAB Datuk Seri Ir. Haji Idris bin Haji Haron, has seen Danish Energy Efficiency Partners Sdn. Bhd. emerged as the recipient of The International Collaboration Category. The wining trophy has been awarded by the Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Seri. This category is a recognition given to international company in conjunction with initiatives to promote and execute green practices in Malacca. Danish Energy Efficiency Partners Sdn. Bhd has carried out green initiative for energy cost saving in buildings in Malacca by providing expertise and finance for the project and undertakes the whole process of design, procurement, installation and monitoring energy saving projects in the buildings. The programme initiated by Danish Energy Efficiency Partners Sdn. Bhd. will be a showcase for large scale implementation and adoption of energy efficiency in existing buildings in City or a State.
